Rajasthan Agricultural Infrastructure Development: There are preparations to expand the water conservation infrastructure on farms in Rajasthan. The government is aiming to build about 18 thousand new farm ponds in the current financial year at a cost of more than Rs 185 crore. Through these farm ponds, rain water can be stored in the fields and used for irrigation at the time of need. According to the Agriculture Department, 35,893 farm ponds have been built in the state in the last two and a half years and a grant of Rs 328 crore has been given to farmers for these. Under the scheme, eligible farmers are given a grant ranging from Rs 63 thousand to Rs 1 lakh 35 thousand. The government's focus is now on strengthening rural agricultural infrastructure and better management of rain water at the local level. Construction of new farm ponds will develop an alternative source of irrigation for Kharif and Rabi crops. This can help in reducing dependence on rain and increasing the water storage capacity of fields.
